The title today refers to the release date of the first LIFETIME full length record in 9 years! Definitely one of the last bands out there that those of us pushing year 40 can refer to as punk rock... and the 3 songs they have released as tasters seem to indicate they have matured quite effectively. Same old genius Lifetime with a bigger recording budget! Can't wait! I rarely get excited about new rock n' roll of late, but I am counting the days until this baby! Positive / melodic p-rock does a body good, even an old body mates! Surf here.

In footie news... The Gunners host Spurs at The Emirates tomorrow in the 2nd leg of the Carling Cup semifinals... leg 1 was a 2-2 draw so we need only win (that would be nice) or draw them nil-nil or 1-1 and we go through! Considering our injury plague and the fact that the kiddos / reserves have gotten us this far in the competition, one must assume he (Arsene Wenger) will again let the young'ins have a go. He has hinted that the injury bug may force him to choose which trophies to fight for. The League is likely already lost, so my guess our priority list , in order is: 1. Champions League, 2. FA Cup, 3. Carling Cup... we shall see.

Anyway... uhhh... Go Colts!

Tottenham 2 - 2 Arsenal

Well we drew in the Carling Cup Semi's (leg 1) at Spurs!!!! This is good because, A. We started only 4 first team players and among our total 11 yesterday, 4 are teenagers! Spurs played their usual 1st 11 and got off to a 2 goal lead... and our kids came back and equalized!
and, B. the 2nd leg is at our place next week and we got 2 away goals which count double in the event the aggregate ends up equal. Confused?... bottom line all we have to do is draw at worst and we advance to the final versus Chelski! Neato!

Julio Baptista (above) netted 2 goals after blasting 4 against Liverpool last week! Seeing that VanPersie will be out 6+ weeks looks like "The Beast" is stating his case for first team football!

and... "W" wants $2+ billion more for the "war" in Iraq on top of the 20,000 additional lambs, I mean troops! Thank goodness this so different than Vietnam! Geez! When Al Gore starts to look articulate and rational you know things are a bit dicey!

and finally... You know your an alkie if... instead of enjoying the double vodka currently in your hand you are racking your brain trying to figure out how you can sneak a drink tomorrow!

Sometimes your the Pigeon, Sometimes the Statue

The Saints run to glory ended with a dull thud in snowy Chicago yesterday... bottom line, you are not going to win any game if you turn the ball over 4 times and only attempt 12 total running plays! I for the life of me can't figure out why, when they made it 16-14, they didn't start pounding the Bears with the Deuce man...? They must get a quality cornerback and a run stopping linebacker in the offseason and I fully expect we will be seeing many more Saints playoff games in the near future! Good season guys, reload, and get ready for next year.

In the AFC clash, a classic it was! Although my boy Mr. Hobbs is likely still gut punched, part of ya has to be happy for 'ol Peyton Manning. He finally won a "big" game and in dramatic fashion no less!

Bears v Colts in The Bowl... Go Colts! Let the dreaded hype begin!

Across the pond a revival of one of the bigger rivalries in Euro footie lived up to the hype! Man United visited north London and after a scoreless first frame took the lead with a Rooney header early in the second. They then sat back a bit and The Gunners went into full attack mode! Alas, a great cross, a slight flick and Bam, Van Persie levels 7 minutes from time! Not done yet... Arsenal continued to pressure a stunned Man U back four and 3 minutes into added time Eboue made a absolutely brilliant cross and Henry headed home the winner at the death! Unbelievable! This pic of the Man U defenders pretty much captures their day!

In music news: Brent Liles, bassist for Social Distortion until 1984, and Agent Orange thereafter has passed away. Brent was killed suddenly, when he was struck by a truck as he rode his bicycle across a street in Placentia, California. Liles played bass on the Social Distortion's groundbreaking Mommy's Little Monster recording in 1983 and also Agent Orange's 1992 classic, Living In Darkness. He also figured prominently in the documentary, Another State of Mind which focused on both SD and Youth Brigade. The 2 aforementioned records are likely 2 of the best / most influential punk rock slabs ever!!!

Football... and well Football

The Gunners host mighty Man United this Sunday (10am CST Fox Soccer Channel) in what is the Red Devils' maiden visit to the beloved Emirates Stadium. Arsenal have yet to be beaten in their new house and here's to hoping said trend continues...

The clear #1 sporting story of the weekend, hell the year, is the fact that the New Orleans Saints (yea, dem Saints) are one "W" away from a spot in the Super Bowl!!!  What's next... brickwallboy suddenly cracks the secret of the "self"... right...

If the Saints somehow qualify for and then win the Bowl... it'll make Mardi Gras look like a Bar Mitzvah!  Who Dat baby!

Well... been outta touch awhile. Matters of a higher order command my attention of late. Just wanted to say "hey" to all 3 of my loyal readers! Hope everyone had joyous Holidays and splendid New Years' and all that good jive!

On a lighter note, The Gunners host Man U in the League this Sunday and have FA Cup and Carling Cup semifinals around the corner.
